Olde Towne Portsmouth Historic District boasts the largest collection of period homes between Charleston, South Carolina and Alexandria, Virginia. Olde Towne Portsmouth is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Preservation

Olde Towne was the first established historic district in the city. It represents the town’s earliest surviving history and is the only example of an early townscape in the Hampton Roads area. To preserve Olde Towne’s history and structures, historical guidelines have been put in place. Before renovating the outside of your home, you may need to submit an application to the Historic Preservation Commission. Please review the city’s guidelines listed here:

Beautification

The Beautification Committee cares for our parks, plants our beautiful flowers, and coordinates monthly clean-ups.   Every third Saturday of the month we meet in Red Lion Park to get supplies for trash pick up.  The Civic League provides grabbers, buckets, and trash bag for neighbors to use as the beautify the grounds of Olde Towne.

This committee works to makes sure public green spaces are maintained and is always in need of volunteers.  If you would like to help with these efforts please email info@otpcl.org.

Traditions

Olde Towne neighbors are the keepers of our traditions. Whether it is tending to our parks and communal spaces, volunteering during Ghost Walk, hanging holiday wreaths on lamp posts each December, ringing in the new year at the Scottish Walk, or sharing our history, the people of Olde Towne are what make it special and our traditions help to bring us together.
